Hereford Road, Notting Hill Gate, London, England

The Hereford Road Bistro opened its doors to the public in 2007, at number 3 of Hereford Road, in London’s Notting Hill Gate. The bistro, run by former St John chef Tom Pemberton, has closed after 17 years of trading in August 2024. The reasons were not disclosed.

I visited the bistro in autumn 2012. It was listed in the Michelin Guide as «Bib Gourmand», which is a place where you can eat good quality food at reasonable prices. The bistro was listed as such in the Michelin guide until its closure.

Jerusalem Artichokes Salad

My first dish was a ‘Jerusalem artichokes salad’. I had no clue at the time that this is a root vegetable. When the dish came, I realized that it was something other than an artichoke from Jerusalem. It was delicious, nevertheless. The root was braised and then put on the grill for the finishing touch. It was tender, smoky, and starchy. The salad was dressed with horseradish mayonnaise

Smoked eel with potato salad

My second dish was smoked eel, served with potato salad. I like eel and I enjoyed the dish.

I finished my meal with a blue cheese produced by ‘Beechmount Farm’ in Tipperary in south Ireland. Its name is “Cashel blue” and it is delicious.
