Panormitis Taverna, Marathon Beach, Attica, Greece

A couple of kilometers of distance separate the Marathon Battle Tumulus from Marathon Beach, where the Panormitis Taverna is located. It is a humble taverna on the road that follows the shoreline.

The secret of its success is the quality of the seafood it serves and the commitment of the owner, Giorgos, to serve the best seafood in the area.

Octopus braised in wine. It is so tender and tasty, I always wish there was more.

The squid (calamari) is fried to perfection. Its sweetness captivates the oral cavity and its aroma is the sea.

Giorgos buys all ingredients from the fishermen who collect their catch in the early hours of the day and then return to anchor their boats in Marathon Beach.

It is a small shop, and when the crowds descend the service suffers. But this is something I can cope with. As long as the quality remains consistently high.
